SEEKING MEN WITH POTENTIAL

When people ask a single woman about her love life its rarely for the sake of asking. There is always a motive. The motive is usually to interfere. Yet, They do not view it as interfering. They feel that they are staging some type of intervention. And at the crazy age of 20 it seems like I qualify for helpful interventions.

Have you thought about marriage ?
Me: Sure... can I graduate first ?
When will you get married ?
Me: Someday

Would you like me to set you up with someone?
Me: No Thank You

Have You considered internet dating ?
Me: It's not that serious

What do you want from a man?
Me: A man with ambition who can tolerate me

Surely you want kids at some point ?
Me: yea.. at some point ... not now ----->

After 5 mins of that convo I'm usually a lost cause. But there are always the pushy ones(My Aunt) that wont give up, and feel the need to give me advice. Humm.. the only way to learn is to be open to new ideas. So I shut up and listen..

The weird thing is the advice seems to move towards what I need to be for a man, rather than what I should seek in a man. Apparently for a "long term relationship", I need to be smart but not overly intelligent, Sex appeal but not overly slutty, or have high standards without being high maintenance. Be independent , make it clear that I'm interdependent but never seem co-dependent -__-

Being 20 is already confusing enough, I don't think my prime focus is to change myself to attract a man. If I do that, my true identity becomes hidden from everyone and myself .

A wise woman (My Mother) once told me :
“Sometimes you’ve got to help that man become the man he can be. Maybe he not have much money now or big job. But you can help him get there. You make dream man for yourself. Problem is you young girls want it all now”

Those words hit me like a brick, the thought that I overlooked a lot of men with potential never crossed my mind. Studying a man's character and using it against his potential isnt the way to go. As women we need to celebrate their present conditions and see if it works with you.

P.S- sorry if this was lengthy lol

Fate...

There is so much about my fate that I cannot control, but other things do fall under the jurisdiction. I can decide how I spend my time, whom I interact with, whom I share my body and life and money and energy with. I can select what I can read and eat and study. I can choose how I'm going to regard unfortunate circumstances in my life-whether I will see them as curses or blessings. I can choose my words and the tone of voice in which I speak to others. And most of all, I can choose my thoughts.

"Getting What You Want From a Relationship"

In a past post titled "Brooklyn Seminars In Modern Psychoanalysis:Getting Along", I spoke about a interesting seminar that I usually attend every other month. The topic of the seminar for this year is "Getting Along". In March 13th, yet again a group of people from different careers came together to talk about "Getting What You Want From a Relationship.

Dr. Michaela Schaeffer pointed to sex, money, and power as key elements in any relationship.  She began with the kinds of relationships we generally think of--spouse, lover, sibling, parent, child, in-laws, boss, employee, colleague.  The group helped expand the list to relationships with yourself, with professionals and tradespeople, with your neighborhood and government, with food, and with things.

Dr. Schaeffer presented her five rules for improving your relationship:
1)  If you don't ask, you don't get
2)  If someone asks, just say yes
3)  If one person wins, everyone loses
4)  Talk
5)  Laugh

New Music: Jessie J

The greatest thing to see are behind the scene songwriters finally taking the spotlight. Jessie J is behind a lot of hits like "Party In The USA- Miley Cyrus"and have worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys.
I love her voice very powerful! Her music has meaning if you really listen to it. Jessie is gonna have a great year :)

Book Review : The Help

Last semester in my voice and diction class, A couple of my fellow classmates were preparing lines and scenes for a small reenactment of the Kathryn Stockett bestseller The Help. I never really heard of the book and I didn't think it was worth a read. Until I went to the local BJ's and there it was. The book for only $14.00 and I did not put it down till every page was read.
This is by far the best book I've read in a long time . Although it is fiction The Help is about the trials and tribulations of African American maids in the 1960's in different POV's (point of views). It also takes to the point of views of their employers ,and the main character Skeeter and her quest to find the maid that raised her. If you like point of view/cultures stories this is for you. I highly recommend it

I recently learned that there will be "The Help Movie" out in August of this year ! :D... Excited !!
Check it out and let me know what you think :)
